I got the opportunity to chat to Claire Hodgson this week, one of our Account Managers here at WorkCast. Claire joined WorkCast in 2010 and works with our publishing and media customers including most of the biggest global names in publishing. We thought our blog would be a great place to tell you a little bit more about Claire…

1. Where are you from and how did you end up at WorkCast?

I spent the first 12 years of my working life in the car industry working predominantly for Volkswagen, so a change to technology was a big one, but it’s fair to say I’ve never looked back! Working for a technology company means I can work from anywhere, but I’m lucky enough to find a company that was only a 7 mile drive to the office which helps me keep a nice balance between my career and young family.

A friend of mine recommended WorkCast to me, and after really enjoying the interview process I decided to take the leap into online events!

2. Tell us about your typical working day...

I usually arrive around 8.30-9am and of course always start with a good old cup of tea! That gets me going for the day and prepares me for my inbox. I answer all my emails and then check out my diary for the day. I usually try to have at least 2 online meetings a day to run through the WorkCast Platform with my customers, discuss any new features to the Platform and generally keep in touch with my customer base to make sure they’re happy.

I like to promote all the functionalities of the WorkCast Platform. Instead of just remotely delivered webinars, I see if they have thought about doing onsite video webcasts, e-learning or virtual events. Or I might suggest they create channels to store their online events. I generally explore lots of opportunities with them.

3. What kind of skills do you need to be effective in your role?

Communication skills are key and not to be afraid to pick up the phone and have a conversation! I love learning about my customers in terms of how our Platform makes their day job easier. I also would class many of them as friends - I like to learn about what makes them tick outside of the office and have developed some great relationships with my clients over the years.

As well as external facing communication, it’s important that I have good relationships with the rest of the team here at WorkCast - ensuring we’re all supporting our customers to the best of our abilities.

I’d also say to anyone considering an account manager role here at WorkCast that you get the opportunity to think outside the box too - it’s great having the opportunity to help my customers by suggesting ways to build their audience or work with their content perhaps by suggesting video rich powerpoints to make them more visually appealing. I will also introduce them to other members of the team here for expert opinions, or send them WorkCast marketing content which could help them.

4. What's the best thing about your job?

It’s great having worked with a customer from the very beginning and seeing their full journey with WorkCast. From a simple idea or an inbound lead, through to seeing the end result and learning how satisfied with the Platform they are.

5. What's been your favourite online event you've w
