Where are you from and how did you end up at WorkCast?

My background is fairly varied, out of school I studied an HND in Marketing, following which I spent two years working for a Market Research Company. I started as a CRM Strategist, moved to CRM Executive and then a Business Development Executive. Close to the end of my second year I was made redundant and ended up working in the aquatics department of a Garden Centre, as much as I enjoyed this role it wasn’t the career I wanted so I went back to University to turn my HND into a degree.

I came to WorkCast in January 2013, on an internship through Graduates for Business. I started life here at WorkCast as an Events Co-ordinator and soon progressed to being an Events Manager.

Tell us about your typical working day

One of the great things about the Webinar Events department is that there is no typical working day. We have such varied work that no two days are the same, but I’ll do my best to cover the typical daily jobs.

The first thing I do when I arrive into the office is to check through my emails, usually having received around 15+ fresh emails through the night. I work through these and add anything to my to-do list that requires attention, any small jobs can normally be done straight away. I then remind myself of the events or recordings I have that day and work through setting up the various aspects of these. This could be setting up reminder emails, checking through slides or checking streams.

I always start setting up for my events, webinars, webcasts etc. 1 hour before we go live, dialling phones in and setting up backup streams. Finally I use any free time I have around events to work through my to-do list. This usually includes building or amending registration pages, approving emails for my colleagues or creating on-demand events.

What kind of skills do you need to be effective in your role?

As I mentioned the events team have quite a varied workload so this in itself requires a variety of skills. With the amount of work we do that is representative of our clients we must have good attention to detail. We don’t want any emails or registration pages going out with broken links or any other errors.

It is also important to have good people skills. A large portion of my role involves working with clients so we need to be on the same page and working together. Additionally I need to maintain the attention of any presenters I am working with on the webinar, as this is vital for the smooth running of the events.

What's the best thing about your job?

The thing I like most about my job is the people. At WorkCast we are a close knit team and all the departments support and help each other, so it’s great that everyone gets on so well.

Additionally I believe our clients are an extension of WorkCast and conversely we are an extension of the clients company. I like to work with my clients rather than working for them, so it’s always great to be able to share the positivity when a client gets a good turnout for an event. I love being able to pass on positive comments to my clients.

What do you like to do for fun when you’re not at WorkCast?

Outside of work I enjoy spending time with family and friends. Mostly going to the cinema to see Disney films or playing board games and video games. It’s a running joke that I am rarely seen without my Nintendo 3DS.

One thing that not many people know about you…

I love to collect things! I have 153 different Monopoly games. Everyone always asks me where I keep that many Monopoly games. Fortunately for me I have a very understanding wife, an understanding wife who doesn’t have the use of an airing cupboard.
