This series is to introduce the EN approach on the use of concrete for sustainability construction. This replaces the former approach based on British standards in early 2000. Since then several updates and additional supporting EN standards have been added to BS EN206. In both Malaysia and Singapore, national standards are prepared for the supplementary standards published by BSI in the UK. The topic for this session covers on:
Conformity test and requirements for compressive strength
Conformity criteria – initial production and continuous production, concrete family
Initial test and identity test – acceptance criteria
Exposure classes – aggressive chemical attack from natural soil and ground water
Environmental actions – carbonation and chloride-induced corrosion
Selection of concrete for exposure conditions – examples
Sustainability issues – 3R’s and carbon footprint (ECO 2)
