Inspections of Construction Sites, Post-Construction BMPS and Commercial/Industrial Sites as Part of a Municipal Storm Water Program. Originally Aired: June 6, 2017.
Now available to view on demand
Participants will earn one Professional Development Hour (PDH)
This webinar will focus on how municipal stormwater programs can more effectively inspect construction sites, post-construction BMPs, and commercial/industrial sites. Technical considerations will be discussed, including identifying, reducing, and eliminating illicit discharges and identifying problematic or missing BMPs on construction and industrial sites. In addition, training programs for municipal staff will be discussed to better equip both inspectors and regular employees to identify potential stormwater issues. For the sites themselves, this webinar will give them a better understanding of how to minimize potential violations and set themselves up for permit compliance.
Outreach, education, and enforcement is a big part of a successful municipal stormwater program. Engagement and education of contractorsand commercial/industrial facilities can greatly increase compliance with permit requirements. However, construction and industrial sites can be dynamic environments that utilize many different BMPs. In addition, the wide variety of commercial & industrial industries can be challenging to fully understand their operations and how BMPs should be applied. We will dive into some common industries and look at BMPs that should be at most construction and industrial sites. This portion of the webinar will give the viewer some tips on how to best approach their next site inspection as a municipal inspector with an understanding of the site’s challenges and for the sites, how to best achieve permit compliance.
Once a site moves from construction BMPs to post-construction BMPs, there is a greater focus on structural BMPs, which can be more effective a pollutant reductions but require larger maintenance events on a less frequent basis than typical temporary, construction BMPs. From an inspection perspective, this webinar will focus on identifying potential problems with post-construction BMPs and some of the recent best practices in the industry on tracking, inspecting, and mapping BMPs.
