Malaysia's concrete pavements have served past their original design life. To ensure the traffic smoothness during repairs, customised concrete was developed with the ability to harden faster to achieve desired strength for traffic opening within 48 hours. Due to the inconsistency of rapid hardening concrete performance, further R&D still need to be carried out in order to meet desired riding and surface quality.
After 11 years of research, US Highway Agencies have proposed several precast systems as effective solutions for the rehabilitation of concrete pavements. Gaining knowledge of this technology will not only benefit in rehabilitation and repairing works, it also provides more freedom for road experts to design the concrete pavement with precast component application in BIM, that will bring quality and cost benefit to road projects.
