Security researchers report that stolen passwords are at the heart of up to 80% of data breaches. The lack of security around loose passwords led to the practice of complex password policies.

Complex password policies have become overly time consuming and expensive to manage and has actually led to less security due to the patterns and behaviors humans utilize to “remember” them.  Dual-factor and Multi-factor authentication (MFA) are now considered standard for mid and large size organizations. By working with the right vendor, MFA has become cost effective, secure and convenient for users.

This presentation explores some of the issues around legacy passwords and introduces a path to strong authentication and high identity assurance through dual-factor authentication using PKI-based credential management systems.
