Brexit: Deadlock or Breakthrough?

Wednesday 1st July at 10am BST I 11am CEST

Negotiations between the UK and EU on a post-Brexit trade agreement reach the midway point this month, as both sides of the channel continue to hammer out differences in what the UK is calling an “intensified” round of talks through June and July. With the UK sticking to its guns and saying it will not extend the transition period, the two sides appear deadlocked on a host of crucial issues.

Hosting this Dods Insights webinar is Acting Editor of PoliticsHome, Matt Honeycombe-Foster, who will help share knowledge from both Brussels and Westminster. Alongside Matt is Brian Johnson, Managing Editor of the Brussels-based The Parliament Magazine, Daniel Bond, Managing Editor of Parliament’s prestigious The House magazine, Richard Johnstone, Acting Editor of Civil Service World and Laura Hutchinson, Principal Political Consultant on Foreign Affairs, International Development and Brexit at Dods Group.

In this insightful webinar we’ll assess the state of play and ask:

  • Where are we now, and what has happened since the talks kicked off earlier this year?
  • Is a deal on a future agreement still likely and what will it look like?
  • What are the main sticking points — and is there room for compromise?
  • What will the impact to business and industry on both sides be in the event of a no-deal?
  • How is Whitehall — already working flat out on Covid-19 — preparing for a possible no-deal?
  • What exactly is the Northern Ireland protocol, how will affect devolution, imports and exports?
  • What’s next for the UK and EU?
