Overcoming current challenges with 3D cell culturing

3D culture is transforming cell biology and tissue engineering applications. However such evolution in research is also coupled with new challenges. 3D culture methods still require solid expertise in handling and optimisation to build good in vitro models, especially multilayer complex models. In addition, utilising 3D cultures with standard cell analysis methods, which were originally developed to support 2D cultures, can be challenging.

In this webcast, we explain approaches of how to overcome these challenges. The RAFT™ 3D Culture System has been used to develop complex multilayer cell culture models with different cell types. In addition, protocols are available that explain how to apply standard 2D cell analysis techniques easily in RAFT 3D Cultures.

Dr. Julie T. Daniels will explain how her lab at the University College London has developed multilayer corneal models using these cultures and is using this 3D method to address the current gaps in limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD) treatment. Her lab aspires to take their research to the next level into clinical applications.

Dr. Jenny Schroeder will summarise other recent advances in 3D cell culture - in particular the development of novel blood-brain-barrier and liver fibrosis models. She will also elaborate on how to apply standard cell analysis techniques such as fluorescence microscopic imaging and viability assays on RAFT 3D Cultures.
