The rise of the conscious consumer: a business risk or opportunity?
Wednesday 22nd April 2020
8.30am to 10.30am CEST
The importance of our oceans is climbing the consumer, political and conversation agenda. Consumers are more aware of the impacts that their purchases have on our environment and are more prepared than ever to change their eating habits to safeguard our planet.
Millennials are eating less fish. And consumers increasingly expect brands and retailers to make responsible choices. Remaining relevant to consumers could mean big changes for the seafood industry. Howare these trends affecting the seafood industry? Can fisheries practically meet the demand for sustainable, responsible products? Who should pay for delivering this change? Are these demands for change realistic? And what role does certification have to play?
This Seafood Futures Forum will explore changing consumer perceptions and consumption patterns and what these mean for the seafood industry. We’ll hear from an inspiring keynote speaker and experts from across the sector will debate how the seafood industry is responding to the Generation Z challenge.
The discussion will be moderated by Natasja van den Berg, Dutch author and board member of the Dutch fair trade association. Nicolas Guichoux, Chief Program Officer at the MSC will reveal the results of new global consumer perceptions research.
